Abstract: Background -Non communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes mellitus are common due to unhealthy life style .The complications of these diseases can be prevented by early diagnosis and treatment. Indian population has an increased susceptibility to diabetes mellitus. Various modifiable and non modifiable risk factors give rise to the condition of which modifiable one are important as it can be minimized. Hence it is essential for the youth community to be aware about diabetes mellitus. Objective - To assess the knowledge on diabetes mellitus and its control. Results - A total of 264 students participated. 42% of the students knew about DM through mass media.Excessive urination was the most common symptoms reported by 34% of the students.42% of the students said that it will affect to the kidney. Majority of the students reveals that diabetes can be controlled through medication.
