Background &amp; Objectives: The anterior, middle and the posterior clinoid processes are &#13;
located in the middle cranial fossa of the skull. Variations in sellar region like the &#13;
interclinoid bar (the ossification between the anterior and posterior clinoid processes); &#13;
and the carotico clinoid foramen (the ossification between the anterior and middle clinoid &#13;
processes) may cause difficulty for clinoidectomy procedures. Therefore, to obtain a &#13;
satisfactory result from these surgeries, detailed anatomical knowledge of the region and &#13;
the type of ossification between the clinoid processes is necessary. The present study is &#13;
an effort to know more about carotico clinoid foramen in skulls of North Interior &#13;
Karnataka region. &#13;
 &#13;
Methods: For the present study, dry unknown human skull were obtained from north &#13;
interior Karnataka region collected in the department of Anatomy of BLDEU’s Shri &#13;
B.M.Patil Medical College Hospital and Research centre Bijapur. The carotico clinoid &#13;
foramen were studied in the dry human skull and were observed for various parameters &#13;
like complete or incomplete, unilateral and bilateral and type of sellar bridges.  &#13;
 &#13;
Results and interpretations: The data was analyzed statistically with chi square test. &#13;
Carotico clinoid foramen was observed in 223 skulls and was found in 83(37.19%) skull &#13;
bones. Amongst 223 skull bones, in 39 (17.47%) skulls the carotico clinoid foramen was &#13;
forming a complete foramen; and in 44 (19.71%) skulls the carotico clinoid foramen was &#13;
forming incomplete foramen. &#13;

Complete bilateral carotico clinoid foramen was found in 23 skulls (10.31%) and &#13;
complete unilateral was found in 16 skulls (7.16%). Incomplete bilateral carotico clinoid &#13;
foramen was found in 7 skulls (3.13%). &#13;
Incomplete unilateral carotico clinoid foramen was found in 37 skulls (16.58%) on right &#13;
side -20 skulls (8.96%) and left  side-17 skulls (7.62%)  . The sellar bridging between &#13;
anterior, middle and posterior clinoid processes was also studied. &#13;
Conclusion: Detailed knowledge of carotico clinoid foramen will increase the success of &#13;
the regional surgery

Background and Objectives :  &#13;
 Brachial plexus is responsible for cutaneous and muscular innervation of most &#13;
of the upper limb. Gross anatomical knowledge of the nerves like origin, course &#13;
branches and distribution are of vital importance. Most brachial plexus injuries result &#13;
in severe dysfunction of arm and hand. The anatomical variations of the brachial &#13;
plexus constitute a potentially important clinical and surgical issue. Even though &#13;
many studies have taken place involving major nerves of brachial plexus, they are still &#13;
far from complete.  &#13;
 The present study was done with the aim to study the formation of brachial &#13;
plexus and find out various anomalies in the arm.  &#13;
Methods :  &#13;
 The study was carried out on 60 upper limb specimens (30right, 30 left) &#13;
obtained during the course of dissection from undergraduate students in the &#13;
department of Anatomy at BLDEA’s Shri B.M. Patil Medical College, Hospital and &#13;
Research Centre, Bijapur. The five major nerves were selected from the cords of &#13;
brachial plexus and there origin, course and distribution with respect to each nerve &#13;
was studied in the arm. The nerves include – musculocutaneous nerve, median nerve, &#13;
ulnar nerve, radial nerve and axillary nerve.  &#13;
Results :   &#13;
After detail study of the above nerves following results were obtained. &#13;
1. Communication between musculocutaneous and median nerves in eleven limbs.  &#13;
x &#13;
2. Musculocutaneous nerve was absent in one limb. 3. Median nerve supplied muscles &#13;
of front of arm in one limb. 4. Musculocutaneous nerve did not pierce &#13;
coracobrachialis muscle in seven limbs. 5. Communication between radial and ulnar &#13;
nerve in one limb.  &#13;
Conclusion :  &#13;
 The anatomical knowledge of the nerves is essential for assessing the &#13;
functional loss and planned reconstructive surgeries.   &#13;
 Knowledge of the variation that are observed in our study are important to &#13;
neurologists, orthopaedicians and traumatologists as these may give rise to variable &#13;
clinical picture

Dermatoglyphics is a branch of science which deals with the study of ridge &#13;
patterns on finger tips, palms, soles and toes. Dermatoglyphic traits are formed under &#13;
genetic control early in the development, but may be affected by environmental &#13;
factors during 1st trimester of pregnancy. They however do not change thereafter. &#13;
Thus maintaining stability and personal identification. Thus represent the genetic &#13;
makeup of an individual and therefore predisposition to certain diseases. Tuberculosis &#13;
is a major public health problem. Genetic factors play a role in the susceptibility of an &#13;
individual for tuberculosis. By analyzing various parameters of dermatoglyphics in &#13;
the palms and fingers, it is possible to certain extent to predict individual’s chance of &#13;
acquiring pulmonary tuberculosis. &#13;
Methods and Results &#13;
 The finger and palm prints of hundred diagnosed patients of sputum positive &#13;
pulmonary tuberculosis in the age group between 20 to 60 years were compared with &#13;
hundred controls, of the same age group, among which 50 were males &amp; 50 were &#13;
females. Screening questions were asked to exclude other genetic disorders. The &#13;
quantitative study includes total finger ridge count (TFRC), absolute finger ridge &#13;
count (AFRC), mean ‘atd’ angle. &#13;
The quantitative study includes finger print patterns (whorls, radial loops, &#13;
ulnar loops and arches) and palmar pattern (simian line and Sydney line).Statistical &#13;
analysis for quantitative analysis, the arithmetic mean and standard deviation will be &#13;
calculated, ‘Z’ test will applied. For qualitative analysis, the ‘Chi’ square test will &#13;
applied whenever necessary. &#13;
 X &#13;
           The following significant parameters have been found in the present study of &#13;
palmar dermatoglyphics in patients with sputum positive tuberculosis in the age group &#13;
between 20-60 years:  &#13;
In both males and females: &#13;
1. Lower mean ‘atd’ angle in study group. &#13;
2. Higher Mean Absolute Finger Ridge Count (AFRC). &#13;
3. Higher Mean Total Finger Ridge Count (TFRC) &#13;
Conclusion &#13;
      The significant dermatoglyphic parameters found in the study may be used to &#13;
predict individual’s chance of acquiring pulmonary tuberculosis.
