Abstract:
Acute Necrotizing Otitis Media / Acute Necrotic Otitis
Media is a special form of acute bacterial otitis media, that is
accompanied by true necrosis and sloughing of considerable
areas of tissue in the middle ear and adjacent region.1
It occurs
in infants & young children who are acutely ill and toxic
from measles, scarlet fever, pneumonia, influenza, or some
other systemic febrile infections.2
There is true necrosis &
gangrene of considerable areas of soft tissue and sometimes
bone due to a virulent organism nearly always beta-hemolytic
streptococcus.3
There is progressive necrosis and sloughing
of tissue which is replaced by cicatrical tissue. Herein, we
report a case of post measles, acute necrotizing otitis media
in both ears managed by debridement and serial dressings
