dc.description.abstractABSTRACT BACKGROUND With the advent of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries, more patients with comorbidities are accepted for surgery. Early recovery after surgery is marked by regular and spontaneous respiration, awake patient, haemodynamic stability, appropriate oxygen saturation and adequate motor activity, patient is moved to a step down unit for Phase II recovery where he/she is followed up and readied to go home [1]. Modified Aldrete score and fast-track criteria [2-5] are the two commonly used scoring systems to assess recovery from general anaesthesia. With increasing number of laparoscopic surgeries where patients are discharged early, a recovery assessment tool with inbuilt assessment of the pain and nausea was deemed necessary so that health care providers are fairly confident in their decision to discharge a patient safely.en_US
